On 27 October 2026, Kenya Airways Cargo completed its first major livestock charter, transporting more than 50 cows from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (Nairobi) to Murtala Muhammed International Airport (Lagos, Nigeria) on a dedicated freighter (Boeing 737-800, registration 5Y-KCA).
The shipment used the specialised “KQ Live” service with temperature control, ventilation, and veterinary oversight to ensure animal welfare on the ~5-hour-15-minute flight. Cargo Director Fitsum Abadi described it as a milestone supporting intra-African trade and specialised cargo growth. The operation generated widespread public amusement and social-media commentary in Kenya (“Ng’ombe amenitangulia kupanda ndege”).
