On Friday, October 30, 2026, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna officially launched the national headquarters of the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM) in Lavington, Nairobi. The event marked a major organisational milestone as the group transitions from a political mobilisation platform into a structured political party ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Linda Mwananchi emerged following Sifuna’s fallout with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), where he previously served as Secretary-General. The disagreement centred on ODM’s political direction and its relationship with President William Ruto’s administration. The group rebranded from The Equitable Party (TEP) into the Linda Mwananchi Movement (also referred to as Linda Mwananchi Movement Party or LMM). It has positioned itself as a vehicle for opposition politics, with Sifuna endorsed as its preferred presidential candidate.
The headquarters is located in the upmarket Lavington area (references include Jipe House, off Kabarsiran Avenue / Westlands area in some reports). It will serve as the national coordination centre, presidential campaign command centre, and base for administration, political communication, grassroots mobilisation, and engagement with aspirants.
The launch drew significant opposition figures, signalling ongoing consultations within the broader “United Opposition” space:
Rigathi Gachagua (Democracy for the Citizens Party – DCP leader and former Deputy President)
Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper Patriotic Front leader)
Eugene Wamalwa (Democratic Action Party-Kenya – DAP-K leader)
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino
Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi (who joined the movement)
Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka
Nyali MP Mohammed Ali (“Jicho Pevu”)
Other allies, including interim communications head Pauline Njoroge and former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo
Notable absences included Winnie Odinga and James Orengo. During the event, some supporters briefly interrupted Kalonzo Musyoka’s speech, with Sifuna intervening to calm the crowd.
Leadership Structure Unveiled
Sifuna announced a proposed national leadership team (to be formally ratified at a National Delegates Convention on November 13, 2026):
Party Leader: Edwin Sifuna
Deputy Party Leaders: Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, and Faith Odhiambo (with one slot reserved for a Coast region representative)
Chairperson: Vihiga/Kakamega Senator Godfrey Osotsi
Deputy Chairperson: Former Makadara MP / former Nairobi Mayor Reuben Ndolo
Secretary-General: Suba South MP Caroli Omondi
Deputy Secretary-General: Pauline Njoroge
Treasurer: Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka
Deputy Treasurer: Abby Zuena (or Abigael Gikonyo in some reports)
Additional proposals included Caroline Mayunzu as Women’s League president and a reserved National Executive Committee slot for minority groups. Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya was named to lead the presidential campaign team, with Faith Odhiambo as deputy in some accounts.
emphasised that the group is now a full political party with a leader, identity, and home, and signalled readiness for talks with other opposition leaders such as Gachagua and Kalonzo.
Establish offices in all 47 counties by December 2026 (starting with Kwale County on Saturday, October 31).
Develop an online platform for aspirants to apply for nomination tickets.
Hold a National Delegates Convention on November 13, 2026, to formalise the rebranding, leadership, and structures.
Build grassroots structures, coordinate nominations, and expand mobilisation.
Kalonzo Musyoka indicated that opposition leaders are still negotiating and plan to unveil a joint presidential candidate on November 13.
The launch positions Sifuna and Linda Mwananchi as a serious player in the fragmented opposition landscape. Attendance by Gachagua, Kalonzo, and Wamalwa highlighted cooperation but did not constitute a formal coalition or endorsement of Sifuna’s presidential bid. Broader challenges remain, including reconciling competing ambitions and forming a unified strategy against the incumbent government.
The event represents a shift from rallies and mobilisation to institutional building, with the Lavington headquarters intended as the permanent operational base for the 2027 campaigns. Coverage from outlets including Radio Generation, The Star, People Daily, and others confirmed the details of the day’s proceedings.
