The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced on 27 October 2026 the suspension of the Migwani County Assembly Ward by-election (Mwingi West Constituency, Kitui County), originally scheduled for 17 November 2026.
Reason: Interim conservatory orders issued by the High Court in Kitui on 22 October 2026 (Petition E011 of 2026 filed by Francis Musili Kauta). The orders last 30 days pending hearing of the petition (scheduled for 11 November 2026). The petition challenges the declaration of the vacancy that arose after the former MCA was appointed Clerk of the Kitui County Assembly. IEBC has halted candidate clearance and related processes.
